GPR Projects
Bay Park Pollution Plant
CityScan Corp. was called upon to locate rebar in two 8’ diameter concrete pipes. Accurate rebar location was necessary for both the structural preservation of the pipe and laying out of core drill locations for valve installation.
Anchor bolt installation
CityScan Corp was contacted by Newmark Construction, of New York, to assist in the setting of anchor bolts for the installation of steel support beams. The anchor bolts needed to be installed on numerous concrete beams thru out the high rise project. Accurate location of embedded rebar was essential for the fabrication of steel plates needed to support the beams installation.
CityScan performed the non-destructive GPR survey and was able to locate and mark out the steel reinforcement bars along the face of each column. With all rebar patterns clearly marked out on the beams surface, the drilling for the anchor bolts was performed without costly delays and beam installation closely followed.
Office space renovation in Midtown Manhattan
CityScan was contacted by Structuretone of New York, when numerous core drill & saw cutting locations were needed for the renovation of office space in Midtown Manhattan. Building engineers specified that electrical conduit embedded in the concrete slab was not to be disturbed.
Using Ground Penetrating Radar, CityScan technicians were able to quickly and accurately identify safe locations for the many slab penetrations. Disruption and evacuation of existing tenants was not necessary because, unlike Radiography (X-Ray), there is no radiation hazard associated with GPR.
NYU Medical Center
CityScan was contacted by Lehr Construction of New York, to aid in the location of embedded obstructions in a concrete slab prior to saw cutting for a purposed plumbing trench at NYU Medical Center. CityScan utilized Ground Penetrating Radar(GPR) to survey the entire length of the purposed trench area to locate any hazards. Unlike X-Ray technology which needs access to both sides of a slab for proper imaging, GPR was best suited for this project because single sided access is only needed to obtain subsurface images, and it does not emit any harmful radiation.
Performing multiple Grid Scans, which produce real-time 3D images, conduit locations were marked out on the slab surface allowing saw cutting crews to work around hazards.
Bridge Deck Inspection - Judlau Contrating
CityScan provided GPR services on the roadway of the Henry Hudson Bridge for accurate location of rebar to allow for the installation of concrete barriers. Rebar locations were marked directly on the roadway which allowed crews to core drill without damaging any structural elements embedded in the slab.
